Dallas–Fort Worth · 20+ Years of Craftsmanship
Every cast stone fireplace we create begins the same way: with a conversation about your home, your family, and the kind of space you want to come home to. What starts as raw stone becomes a piece of craftsmanship that will anchor your living room for generations.
CAST Design Fireplaces has been designing, building, and installing custom cast stone fireplaces across Dallas, Fort Worth, and the DFW metroplex for over 20 years. We work with a single family of materials — premium cast stone — and we've mastered it completely.
The Material
Cast stone is a refined architectural material made from carefully proportioned blends of natural aggregates, white cement, and mineral pigments. The result is a material that looks and feels like hand-carved limestone — with the weight of solid natural stone, the consistency of controlled manufacturing, and a beauty that only deepens with age.
A cast stone fireplace is a fireplace surround, mantel, or full chimney piece crafted from this material. Unlike prefabricated veneers or hollow foam mantels, a genuine cast stone fireplace is solid, dense, and built to last. It holds up to Texas heat and decades of use without fading, cracking, or looking tired.
The difference between a cast stone fireplace and a natural stone fireplace is largely one of flexibility and consistency. Natural stone introduces beautiful variation but limits design control. Cast stone gives you the same warmth and weight, while allowing exact proportions, custom profiles, and intricate carving details that would be prohibitively expensive or impossible to achieve with cut stone alone. Why Cast Stone
Over 20+ years of installing fireplaces across the DFW area, we've had thousands of conversations with homeowners about materials. Here's what they consistently love about cast stone:
Cast stone captures the warm, organic character of natural limestone — the subtle texture, the soft color variation, the sense of permanence — without limestone's inconsistencies. Every profile, every curve, every corbel detail is exactly what you designed it to be.
Unlike off-the-shelf fireplace surrounds, a CAST Design fireplace is designed around your specific space. We account for ceiling height, room scale, architectural style, and your personal taste. No catalog browsing, no compromises.
Our cast stone mix is engineered for the DFW environment — expansion, contraction, humidity — without losing dimensional stability or finish integrity over time. It performs in Texas summers the same way it performs on a cold January evening.
Custom hand-carved limestone or marble fireplaces command extraordinary prices. Cast stone delivers the same presence, the same weight, the same elegance — at a cost that makes genuine craftsmanship accessible to a far wider range of DFW homes.
Many of our clients use their cast stone fireplaces as the central design element of an entire room renovation. The fireplace becomes the anchor — and everything else in the room is chosen to complement it. That kind of visual gravity is difficult to achieve with any other material.
Our Collection
We design and build every piece in-house at our DFW facility. Our cast stone fireplace offerings include:
The mantel is the crown of any fireplace — the piece that commands attention and sets the tone for the room. Our mantels range from understated and linear to ornately carved traditional designs. Every profile is available in custom widths and heights to fit your firebox exactly.
View Mantel Gallery →A full fireplace surround — encompassing the mantel shelf, legs, frieze, and hearth — creates a complete architectural frame for your firebox. Our surrounds are designed as cohesive compositions, not assembled from unrelated parts.
View Surround Gallery →Texas outdoor living is year-round, and a cast stone outdoor fireplace is the element that transforms a patio into a true gathering place. We design and install outdoor fireplaces that hold up beautifully to the weather and look at home in the landscape.
View Outdoor Gallery →For clients who want architectural continuity throughout their home, we also design cast stone range hoods that echo the language of their fireplace — the same profiles, the same textures, the same craftsmanship.

Design Styles
Cast stone is one of the most versatile architectural materials available, working equally well across a wide range of design languages. Here are the styles our DFW clients most frequently request:
Carved details, fluted pilasters, dentil molding, and a full classical surround. These fireplaces draw from Georgian, Federal, and French country architecture and bring a sense of heritage to any room. They're the most requested style in older Highland Park and University Park homes.
Clean lines with restrained detail. A transitional cast stone fireplace works in spaces that want a bit of formality without the full weight of traditional ornamentation — perfect for the majority of DFW new construction and remodel projects.
Slab faces, linear proportions, no applied ornamentation. Modern cast stone fireplaces are often monolithic — a single bold architectural element in a clean room. We've installed striking contemporary fireplaces in Westlake, Southlake, and Preston Hollow homes that look like custom millwork but carry the tactile warmth of real stone.
Rough-hewn textures, chunky proportions, and a warm, unpretentious character. These fireplaces complement exposed wood beams, wide-plank floors, and open living spaces — a popular request for Colleyville, Keller, and Flower Mound homes with farmhouse or transitional-country aesthetics.

Client Stories
"The cast stone fireplace Cast Design installed in our living room is everything we dreamed of. It looks like it's been there since the house was built — perfectly proportioned, beautifully finished, and genuinely the centerpiece of our home. The design process was collaborative and fun. We couldn't be happier."— Sarah & Michael R., Southlake, TX
"We'd looked at several cast stone fireplace companies before finding Cast Design. What set them apart was the in-home consultation — they came to us, really listened, and proposed something that felt completely tailored to our house. The finished fireplace exceeded every expectation."— James K., Highland Park, Dallas
"Twenty years from now, when our house has been remodeled twice and the furniture has changed three times, I know that cast stone fireplace will still be the best thing in the room. That's exactly what Joel told us would happen. He was right."— Diane H., Westlake, TX
Cast stone fireplaces from CAST Design range from approximately $3,500 for a simpler mantel-only installation to $15,000 or more for a full custom surround with hearth and complex carving detail. The cost depends on the size, the complexity of the design, and whether you're doing a new installation or a firebox replacement. We provide a fixed-price quote after the free in-home consultation — no hidden fees, no surprises.
Yes. Cast stone is a cement-based material and is naturally heat-tolerant. It will not warp, melt, or degrade with normal fireplace use. Our cast stone mix is specifically engineered to handle the thermal cycling of regular fireplace operation across decades.
Natural stone fireplaces are beautiful but come with trade-offs: high cost, limited design control, and the inconsistency inherent to quarried material. Cast stone delivers the same visual warmth and physical weight at a lower cost, with precise design control and consistent quality. For custom fireplace design, we believe cast stone is actually the superior material for most applications.
Absolutely. This is the most common scenario — a homeowner has an existing gas or wood-burning firebox and wants to upgrade from a dated or builder-grade surround to a proper cast stone mantel and surround. We work around your existing firebox dimensions, and our team handles all the installation logistics.
Cast stone is one of the most design-flexible fireplace materials available. We produce traditional, transitional, contemporary, modern, rustic, and custom architectural styles. If you can describe it or show us a reference image, we can usually build it.
